Quartz is the most complex of all gemstones in terms of its crystal
structure. Its physical and chemical properties are quite constant compared to
rest of the gemstones. It is also the most abundant crystal. Quartz crystal
specimen is quite impressive to look at and the price is not very high for
even a very nice gem quality crystal. Quartz intensively used by crystal
healers. Quartz cabochons and faceted / cut gems of tourmaline quartz and
Smokey quartz are usually available in the market. However, loose faceted gems
of clear quartz are not common. Most varieties of quartz are cut into beads and
made into cabochons like rose quartz, agate and jasper.
Colors of quartz are not very deep or bright rather they are more
earthly colors. Nowadays, smoky quartz and tourmaline quartz are the
most popular. Smokey quartz is also known as brown quartz. Clear Quartz is
known as Rock Crystal. Quartz is found as individual crystals in a wide variety
of colors or as aggregates of fiber like crystals (chalcedony) as well as aggregates
of grains (jasper), the
latter two groups also being found in a wide variety of colors, patterns and
